Random Act Of Kindness Day Ten

Random Act of Kindness:  Day Ten
Today's Misson:  Operation NEMO
Our location:  PetSmart
Our Target:  An unsuspecting customer purchasing fish.

We enter PetSmart on a busy afternoon.  We came to purchase filters and crickets.  We discovered a young father and his daughter (not much older than 4) looking at fish.  They had spied some cichlids on sale 2 for $5.  The young man told the clerk which fish were on sale and  the clerk replied that the sale had expired and the tag had not been taken down.  The man and little girl walked over to look at other fish, but I kept hearing the little girl say she wanted the "pink" fish.  The clerk finished helping us and we waited to see what fish they were going to get.  Finally the dad went back over and got the pink fish and the blue fish.  The pink fish was an albino cichlid..but to a four year old girl...that is pink!  We dashed to the register ahead of them in hopes to pay for their fish without them knowing who did it.  But when we got there, we found three cashiers with no line.   We had to wait for them to pick a register and we swooped in to tell them that today we would be buying their fish.  The dad looked at us and said "is this a Boy Scout thing?"  (the boys were wearing their class B Cub Scout shirts and their hats from the derby workshop this morning).  I said "No, it's and act of kindness thing".  The cashier kept saying, "I have never seen anyone buy someone else's fish before".  The dad kept saying thank you over and over and even the little girl looked at us with wide eyed amazement.  They stopped one last time and he had the little girl tell us thank you as we were paying for our items.  As we were walking out, the dad was driving by and stopped to thank us yet again for buying their fish.  We said that we hope the fish lived a good long time and to enjoy them.  He said it was a really nice thing to do and we told him we decided over Lent, instead of giving up something we were going to practice Random Acts of Kindness and that one day they could pay it forward they can!  Random Acts of Kindness "when life gets you down do you wanna know what you've gotta do?  Just keep swimming, swimming...."
