Random Act of Kindness: Day Thirty-five
Our Mission: Sunday at the Theater
Our Location: Greenville Grande Movie Theater
Our Target: A couple of unsuspecting students on a "date"
The boys made a "Lights, Action, Camera...Kindness card" with drawings of popcorn, a free ticket, and a stage. We went to the movie theater and waited for an unsuspecting couple to come up to the ticket counter. As they approached they were deciding on which movie they wanted to see. Our ticket was good for any movie except a 3D movie. We listened to them try and decide on a "girl" movie or a "guy" movie. They decided on Hunger games even the girl said she hadn't read the book yet. They approached the counter and Cooper gave him the card. As we were running off, they were reading the card and they said Thank you that is so nice! It made us smile listening to them debate over a movie and it made them smile to get a free ticket!! We got home and opened the mailbox (we forgot to check it yesterday) and inside we found two envelopes without return addresses (although I knew they were coming, the boys did not) inside were two handwritten cards thanking the boys for the good job that they were doing with their Random Acts of Kindness....The smiles on their faces were truly priceless! As we walked our dog Harley they were wondering who sent them the cards. I told them that I post our Random Acts on Facebook and my blog and people are reading them all over the world. Elliott said "I bet the nice lady in the Dollar Store told somebody and they wrote us to thank us". It made me smile to hear them talk about where their Random Act stories may continue by others.....
These smiles couldn't have come at a better time after receiving heartbreaking news this weekend. So to that couple at the movies, and the "friend" who mailed the sweet kindness cards to my sons, and to all of you who have been praying for my friends who are dealing with the unimaginable heartache this weekend....Tonight, I am giving thanks for the Smiles you all have given me today!! And wouldn't you know this song came to mind and it feels like another divine appointment (as my friend Andrea would say) because it is from a "movie: Smile, though your heart is aching. Smile, even though it's breaking, When there are clouds in the sky, You'll get by... If you smile! With your fear and sorrow, Smile and maybe tomorrow, You'll find that life is still worthwhile, If you just...Smile. Light up your face with gladness, Hide every trace of sadness, Although a tear may be ever so near, That's the time you must keep on trying. Smile, what's the use of crying, You'll find that life is still worthwhile. If you just...Smile.
